Pull it together

I saw this picture on Pinterest, and figured I'd try to recreate it. I don't think I did it justice, but didn't hate the look.

I didn't realize until I did this post that I could have recreated it in a slimmer look by, err, tying the scarf the way she does in the picture. Doh!

Slim line

I'll admit, I've been slacking off on the creativity with the clothes because of all the reading I've been doing to prepare for my thesis defense. Instead, I've been using basic clothing experiments to help solve the getting dressed dilemma. Last week (or the last 2 weeks), I did cardigans vs. blazers. This week was skinny jeans vs. wide leg jeans.

I like skinny jeans because they tuck nicely into boots, to stave off the damp ankle scenario that happens from time to time. Even though I dressed these pants for winter, I styled them for spring - yay floral jackets!

My thesis exploded all over my floor... and my life

I've been obsessed with grey skinny jeans for months, and finally scored a pair a few weeks ago. They were the perfect base for my Jets themed outfit when we went to the hockey game.

No, I don't usually wear my socks OVER my jeans... oops!
And colour - who doesn't love a good coloured skinny? I managed to pick these teal pants up for $1 at Winners when I went shopping with my mom (Ok, she also bought me the grey skinnies when we went to Value Village before that. Aren't Moms awesome?) Naturally, purple was the shirt I had to wear with them!

Apparently I didn't take a picture of my usual blue skinny jeans. But I swear I wore them too!

Cardigan Vs. Blazer: The show down

I laughed when I read Taylor of It's My Cardi's post which started out: "I cannot believe that until recently I was missing out on the blazer as a completer piece to any given outfit. I owned a couple, but typically preferred a cardi. (Hence the blog's name.) But for some reason I have been picking up blazers left and right as of late."

Being a blazer girl, I spent the week trying to prove the benefits of both.

I still advocate for the benefits of blazers. Why?

They add shape to a shapeless outfit. As Sheila commented last week, "I have to admit I struggle with cardigans, being a woman with curves and boobage. They can make me look very lumpy and saggy." While I don't have curves or boobage, I struggle for similar reasons - they lack the definition provided by a blazer.

Secondly, the simple addition of a blazer takes an outfit from "uninteresting and unpolished" to "posh and professional" in a way a cardigan just can't.

Cardigans & Blazers Part II

The outfits from Tuesday's posts were some what of a struggle for me. I liked the idea, but didn't feel as pulled together as I like to be, especially compared to these outfits

Next week, you'll get a chance to see how switching out a blazer for a cardigan changes the feeling of the outfit!
